Game Day Report: Blazers Eye Fourth Straight Win in Tri-City
Published on March 8, 2016 under Western Hockey League (WHL)
Kamloops Blazers News Release
The Blazers will look for their fourth straight win in Tri-City tonight against the Americans, who are fighting to stay in the playoff picture.
These two teams will meet for the fourth and final time this year. The Blazers are 1-2-0-0 thus far on the season series, losing 3-2 on Oct. 7th and 5-3 on Feb. 2nd, and picking up a 3-2 win on Jan 8th.
Kamloops (32-25-5-4) currently sits eight points ahead of ninth-place Tri-City (31-32-2-1), with six regular season games remaining for each team. While the Blazers have won five of their past six games heading into tonight's action, the Americans have lost four of their past five, and sit four points back of Spokane for eighth place in the Western Conference.
The Blazers are coming off inspiring 3-2 regulation wins on back-to-back nights over the weekend against the Kelowna Rockets. Connor Ingram made a combined 97 saves on 101 shots in those two matchups, but the Blazers did a good job limiting high-quality scoring chances against the Rockets in both games.
Gage Quinney will also return to the Kamloops lineup tonight after serving a two-game suspension for a boarding minor against Spokane on Mar. 2nd.
Tonight's game is the first for the Blazers on their current three game road trip; the team plays in Spokane on Wednesday and will close out in Kelowna on Friday. The Blazers could clinch a playoff spot as soon as tomorrow night, with a win in regulation against Tri-City and by earning at least one point against Spokane.
Puck drop at the Toyota Center is at 7:05pm.
Who's Hot:
Blazers: Goalie Connor Ingram posted a 1.33 goals-against-average and .969 save-percentage in winning the past three games, and was named the WHL's goalie of the week as a result. Rookie Garrett Pilon had the game-winning goal in both wins against Kelowna last weekend, totalling three points (2G, 1A) in two games.
Americans: Parker Bowles has four assists in the past three games, including a 3 assist game in a 5-3 win vs. Everett on Mar. 5th. Tyler Sandhu has four points (3G, 1A) in his past three games, and had a three-point performance as well in the Americans' 5-3 win over Everett on the weekend.
