Game Day Preview: KGN vs OSH
January 23, 2022 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Kingston Frontenacs News Release
The Kingston Frontenacs (19-9-3-0) and the Oshawa Generals (17-13-1-2) meet tonight for the fifth time, with the Red and Blue holding a 3-1-0-0 edge in the matchups. The Fronts beat the Gens 5-0 on Dec 3 at Leons Centre before suffering a 4-2 defeat in the team's last game on January 18 in Oshawa. With consecutive wins over Niagara and Hamilton, Coach Luca Caputi's squad is back atop the East Division standings with a one-point lead over Hamilton and a four-point lead over third-place Oshawa.
Polished Chrome
Martin Chromiak has points in three straight games and he has collected six points (3G,3A) in that span. The LA Kings prospect had a nine-game streak that ended on January 14 and he has only gone pointless in seven of his 29 games played. Chromiak is back on a line that had success in 2019-20, the NHL-ready shot winger is playing with Shane Wright and Zayde Wisdom and he has averaged virtually a 0.5 goals-per-game success rate in his 57 games as a member of the Frontenacs (28G). He has moved into 18th place in OHL scoring with a three-point effort in the Fronts win on Saturday night over Niagara with 42 points.
Frasca Feasting
Joining Chromiak in the leagues top-20 scorers is Jordan Frasca. He is having a career year with 22 goals and 44 points, and he has earned points in three straight games (2G,5A). His point totals surpassed his previous career-high of 43 pts in 58 games during the 2019-20 season. The bulking overager forward has registered a point in all but one of Kingston's last nine games. Frasca is sitting behind Edmonds (58 points) for Frontenacs scoring lead.
Generally Speaking
Oshawa lost 4-2 in their last game on January 21 after consecutive wins over Mississauga and Kingston in the last matchup. Ty Tullio continues to pace the Generals, scoring 47 points and he is 10th overall in OHL scoring. Tullio also leads the league in shots with 155. Ryan Stepien is tied with Tullio (17G) for the Oshawa Generals team lead in goals.
In OHL wins, Oshawa Goaltender Patrick Leaver (13) and Leevi Meriläinen (15) are in the top-seven netminders, and both will need to be sharp today against high octane players on either side. Kingston does have a healthy team goals-for advantage with 4.26 goals-per-game versus the 3.42 of Oshawa. The Fronts have allowed a slightly higher team goal against with 3.70 allowed, to that of the Gens 3.27 average.
