Edmonton Eskimos vs Calgary Stampeders

Game Overview: Eskimo fans get their first look at the defending Grey Cup champions Thursday when they host Calgary. Both teams dropped their pre-season openers and will be looking to fine tune several areas. The Esks have a veteran laden roster with few changes from '03, but you'll need a program to follow the Stamps who are led by rookie Head Coach Matt Dunigan.

Watch for:

QBs: Jason Maas has had a good camp and the 5th year veteran is looking to re-claim his role as the Esks starter. He'll be pushed by Bart Hendricks who has been the teams' #3 QB for the last two years.

Backfield: Two Canuck rookies will be under the microscope as Gilles Lezi and Mathieu Bertrand push for the starting fullbacks' job. With Mike Pringle sitting this one out, newcomer Reggie White will have his number called alot.

Receivers: No questions here – Edmonton's high octane pass catchers Vaughn, Mitchell, Hervey and Grey Cup MVP Jason Tucker are the class of the CFL. Sophmore Brock Ralph, the pride of Raymond, AB has been the pleasant surprise of camp '04.

Kick Return: "Mighty Might" Ezra Landry (5'-4" 160lbs) has a few people wondering if the Esks have found another "Giz". The diminutive kick returner will show off his speed and quickness on the wide CFL field.

Promotions: The first 5,000 fans receive a free 2004 Eskimo magnetic schedule courtesy of Londonderry Mall and Macrotronics.

The Eskimos open the 2004 regular season June 19th in Montreal. Edmonton hosts BC June 26th at Commonwealth Stadium (kick-off: 5pm) The Molson Canadian Light Grey Cup pre-game party starts at 2pm at Clarke Stadium.
