Rested rival.

Portland battled hard on Wednesday night against Seattle and now they face a rested Silvertips lineup that hasn't played since they were at the VMC last weekend.

Everett got the best of the Hawks in both games last weekend, but tonight provides an opportunity to gain momentum and confidence heading into a lengthy road trip if the Hawks can dethrone the U.S. Division's best.

A key to success? Continue the scoring trend from Wednesday night. Portland earned a handful of odd-man rushes earlier this week and they need to find a way to score against the WHL leaders in defense who only allow 1.50 goals against per game on average.

"We want to create more, we want to score more and we want to finish more," Assistant Coach Brian Pellerin said earlier this week. "But if you're not getting the chances then you're not going to score. We had some chances and we put four in the net (Wednesday) so that's a positive."

Time to build off that offensive performance.

Playoff mentality.

The coaching staff relishes these early season opportunities when the team plays the same opponent three out of four games because the situation simulates a mini playoff series and allows the team to grow.

Mike Johnston previously said he enjoyed seeing his team "playing hard, finishing your checks, battling, sticking with it, not trying to get out of our comfort zone. So I just thought the playoff battle was exactly where I wanted it and we need that experience. It's going to make us a better team."

Start of the road trip.

The team bus is gassed up and ready to put on some miles.

Portland has already traveled to Everett twice this season (when you include preseason), so they know what to expect from from environment. Everett is one of three remaining unbeaten teams in the Canadian Hockey League (Winnipeg WHL and London OHL) and it's no easy task to win on the road, but it would a terrific way to end the week.

Though the first stop is a quick up-and-back to Everett, the real traveling begins on Monday when the Hawks head north of the border.

"We're the first team to cross the border so I think there's a lot of unknowns," Pellerin said. "I think we'll have a lot of family members up there in Canada so that will be nice to see. Hopefully we can get things turned around a little bit and have some fun up in Canada."

Who says wait until the guys are in Canada? Let's have some fun tonight.
