Winnipeg, MB - The Winnipeg ICE will dedicate the game on Saturday, November 27th at 8:00 pm, when the ICE host the Medicine Hat Tigers, to the Diabetes Education Resource for Children and Adolescents at the ICE Cave inside Wayne Fleming Arena located on the University of Manitoba campus. 24-7 Intouch is a premium supporter of the Diabetes Education Resource for Children and Adolescents game night.

DERCA is the only pediatric diabetes clinic in Manitoba, providing specialized evidence-based care, education, support, advocacy, and research for over 900 children, aged 0 - 18 years, living with diabetes in Manitoba, along with Nunavut and northwestern Ontario.

"November is Diabetes Awareness Month across the globe. This year is unique: it is the 100th anniversary of the revolutionary and life-saving discovery of insulin. The discovery of insulin 100 years ago was a game-changer. But it's not a cure. We can't wait another 100 years to End Diabetes. The time for action is now." (Diabetes Canada, 2021)

In Manitoba, 1/500 children live with type 1 diabetes and 1/1000 children live with type 2 diabetes - approximately 75 children are diagnosed every year per type. Early recognition is important to prevent serious illness at diagnosis.

"The work the Diabetes Education Resource for Children and Adolescents does here in Winnipeg and Manitoba is incredible." said Raylin Kirsch, Winnipeg ICE Vice President of Business and Hockey Administration. "As a family personally impacted by Diabetes we understand that there are truly no days off. The money raised will ensure that all families in Manitoba impacted by Diabetes have more access to critical support and education to make their daily lives easier."

The Winnipeg ICE is encouraging ICE fans to purchase their tickets using the special promo code DIABETES. The Winnipeg ICE will donate a portion of proceeds from every ticket purchased using the promo code DIABETES to Diabetes Education Resource Centre Click Here to Purchase.

ICE Fans that cannot attend in person are encouraged to support the Diabetes Education Resource Centre by using the following link. Click Here to donate.

Funds raised will be used to provide access to care, resources, medication and supplies for families seen at the DERCA. Medications and supplies needed to treat diabetes are not covered by Manitoba Health and families can spend anywhere from $200-$700/month. There is lot of technology available that can help care for and manage diabetes, but these devices are an extra cost that many families are unable to afford.

Single-game tickets are available for Saturday, Sunday, and Wednesday.
