Thanksgiving Week Hawkey
The holiday season is upon us - time to celebrate with some hawkey! Tonight's tilt kicks off a run of four games in five nights for the Winterhawks - including three in front of the Portland faithful! After tomorrow's holiday, the Hawks head north to take on Everett on Friday, then return home for back-to-back games at the VMC on Saturday against Saskatoon and Sunday against Spokane.
Boasting the best point percentage in the U.S. Division, the Winterhawks face several big tests this week - get behind the boys and let 'em hear ya!
Pasta's Back
Playing the Royals gives Hawks fans a chance to welcome back one of their favorites! Portland dealt Dawson Pasternak to Brandon at last year's trade deadline, and the 20-year-old now finds himself leading a young and promising Victoria side in his final year of junior hockey. The man they call "Pasta" tallied 31 points in two years with Portland, playing a fast-paced, high-energy style that always brought the crowd to its feet.
Keep an eye out for a Pasta tribute video during a stoppage in tonight's game and help us welcome Dawson back to the VMC!
Players To Watch
Both teams bring plenty of offensive talent to the table, including Victoria's star rookie Cole Reschny - projected to be a top pick in the 2025 NHL Draft - and Portland's Josh Davies, fresh off his 100th WHL point. But the blue line has highlighted each team's recent success as well, with a handful of key players to keep an eye on.
Carter Sotheran picked up his first multi-goal game in the WHL on Sunday, scoring twice to lead the Hawks past Everett. The Philadelphia Flyers prospect now has three game-winning goals on the year, which is tied for tops among all WHL defensemen. His defense partner, Luca Cagnoni, ranks second in scoring among WHL defensemen with 28 points, and leads that group with a 1.65 points-per-game average. The 2023 San Jose Sharks pick has soared in his first season since being drafted and continues to thrive in all areas of the ice.
For the Royals, defenseman Nate Misskey ranks tied for the lead in team scoring with 22 points in 22 games, and enters tonight's contest with points in four straight outings. The Melfort, Sask. native skated in 65 games and recorded 14 points as a rookie last season, but has evolved his offensive game in year two to become a key factor in Victoria.
