Portland Winterhawks News Release

Portland Winterhawks vs. Tri-City Americans

The Winterhawks return for the first of three games during the weekly home stand. Tonight is the Americans final trek to town this season and the Hawks welcome them for the organization's first Black History game.

Portland is proud to welcome a group from Blaq Athlete to tonight's game. The purpose of the night is to celebrate the Black hockey players who have revolutionized the game.

Puck Drop: 7:00 p.m. PT

Venue: Veterans Memorial Coliseum (Portland, OR)

Listen Live: Winterhawks Radio Network and on the Winterhawks App. You can also listen live in the arena by tuning your radio to 87.9 FM.

Watch Live: WHL Live

Tickets: Portland vs. Tri-City

Come Early!: Be sure to get the arena early tonight as the NHL Black History Tour will be open for all fans in the Rose Quarter between the Coliseum and Moda Center from 1:00 - 7:00 p.m. The experience is completely FREE and anyone attending the Winterhawks and Blazers game can walk through the museum. The Winterhawks are the only non-NHL market to host the tour bus this year. The museum highlights some of the sports biggest trailblazers like Willie O'Ree. Also, keep an eye out for the Winterhawks exhibit inside the museum.

Before puck drop tonight, the Hawks will also recognize the February Indochino Les Schwab Player of the Month. The finalists of the fan vote are Seth Jarvis, Reece Newkirk and Mason Mannek.

For the first time in 2020, the Winterhawks sit in second place in the division. They secured two of a possible three wins last weekend, but Everett won the all-important head-to-head game to leap the Hawks in the standings.

Tonight, Portland looks to remain perfect against the Americans (6-0-0-0 versus record this season) and temporarily take over the top spot in the division once again. With just eight games left to play this regular season, the importance and impact of each intensifies.

The Hawks have out-scored the Americans 34 to 9 this season and they seek their 24th home win of the year, which would tie them for most home wins in the WHL. Seth Jarvis has won the spotlight in this head-to-head series, scoring seven goals and eight assists for 15 points in just six games. On the other side, captain Krystof Hrabik represents 33-percent of Tri-City's scoring in the series, but he has missed the last 14 games.

Second year goaltender Talyn Boyko has not won a game since January 11 and Hawks rookie Dante Giannuzzi owns four head-to-head wins while Joel Hofer won a pair. Jadon Joseph has been one of the hottest Americans, scoring ten points in his last eight games. On Portland's side, Jaydon Dureau has eight points in his last six games to put him nine points away from 100 in his WHL career.

Milestone Watch: Winterhawks Head Coach, General Manager and Vice President Mike Johnston is now four wins away from 400 in his Portland career.

Magic Number: The Hawks are inching closer to clinching home ice in the 2020 WHL Playoffs. As one of three U.S. Division teams to already clinch a spot in the postseason, the Hawks magic number is set at five points to guarantee a top two finish in the division and home ice advantage for the opening round of playoffs. OR if the Winterhawks win tonight in an fashion and the Spokane Chiefs lose in regulation to the Edmonton Oil Kings, the Winterhawks will also solidify a top two finish in the division.
