Three is a magic number

Tonight marks the start of another rare three-in-three for the Winterhawks, and they'll want to start this one just like they did last week. The win over Seattle on Jan. 14 kickstarted a three-point weekend for the Hawks, and another win over Tri-City tonight would give the team plenty of confidence as they host their rival Thunderbirds at the VMC tomorrow night.

This is the second of three consecutive three-game weekends for the Hawks and their third such weekend of the season.

Last time we met...

Nick Avakyan stole the show in a low-scoring battle between these two teams at the VMC on Jan. 15. The Tri-City netminder made 44 saves and stopped all three Winterhawks shooters in a shootout en route to a 2-1 win. Luca Cagnoni nabbed the lone Hawks goal in that tilt for his eighth point (2G, 6A) in the season series, which ties him for most among Portland skaters with forward Gabe Klassen (3G, 5A).

WIN A TOYOTA:

Back for another season, fans 18+ who reside in Oregon or Southwest Washington can ENTER TO WIN a brand new Toyota car, truck, or SUV.

Each game this season, one lucky fan will have their entry drawn and they will have a chance to win our grand prize if they get all five game predictions correct.

Tonight, we are cheering on: Shelly H.M. from Longview, WA

What our Hawks fan could win: A brand new Tacoma

What needs to happen?

Portland Winterhawks (4) beat the Tri-City Americans (2)

Kyle Chyzowski scores the first Winterhawks goal.

Portland goaltenders make 25 total saves.

Tri-City goaltenders make 20 total saves.
