Home Again
We're two-thirds of the way through January, but tonight marks the first home game of 2023 for the Winterhawks. After wrapping up a tough six-game swing through the East Division last Saturday in Regina, the boys hit the road for the long trek back to Portland.
"Obviously the road trip's been a bit of a grind and we didn't always get the results we wanted, but we're looking forward to coming back home and turning it around," said captain Gabe Klassen following a tight 4-3 loss to the Pats.
Now, with a week of practice and some home cooking, the Hawks are ready to put on a show in front of the best fans in the WHL against an opponent they've gone 3-0-0 against thus far in 2022-23. Bring the noise (and a particular outfit...check the note below!) and settle in for the return of Winterhawks hockey at the VMC!
Where's Waldo
There's a unique flavor to tonight's tilt - we're going for the record of "Most People Dressed as Waldo," currently set at 4,626! We've got the crowd to do it, now we just need your help! Throw on your red-and-white striped shirts, pom beanies and blue jeans and get weird at the VMC to make a little history!
Need some help finishing the outfit? We'll have elements of Waldo's outfit available in the team store at tonight's game!
Ya Like Chaz?
We've got a new face to introduce!
Newly-acquired forward Chaz Lucius - a 2021 first-round NHL Draft choice of the Winnipeg Jets - is expected to make his Winterhawks debut this evening after being assigned to Portland by the Jets last Monday. Lucius, a native of White Bear Lake, Minn., spent the early portion of the season with the AHL's Manitoba Moose, before joining Team USA for the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship, where he won a bronze medal with a hat-trick in the deciding contest.
