NEWS & NOTES:
Last Game: The Wheat Kings suffered back to back losses last weekend, both of them by only one goal. First it was a tough 4-3 loss to the Medicine Hat Tigers last Friday. In a game where the Wheat Kings took a 3-2 lead the Tigers would come back to score a pair of unanswered goals to win in regulation. On Saturday the Wheat Kings lost another 4-3 game to the Moose Jaw Warriors. In that game the Wheat Kings were trailing 4-1 after 40 minutes but turned things up in the 3rd period scoring a pair of goals to keep it close.
Jan 20th VS Calgary : The Wheat Kings begin a tough 3 game in 3 night Alberta Road Trip in Calgary. Last time these two clubs met was on a Sunday afternoon inside Westoba Place where the Hitmen made easy work of the Wheat Kings by a score of 5-2. Leading the way for the Hitmen was Zac Funk who either scored or assisted on every Calgary goal. Since that game the Hitmen dealt Funk to the Prince George Cougars in exchange for Carter MacAdams and picks. The Wheat Kings have had success inside the Saddledome already this year dating back to their first road game of the season winning 3-2 on Thanksgiving Monday. Carson Bjarnason led the way that afternoon stopping 41 of 43 shots.
New Alternate Captains: Wheat Kings Coaching Staff announced Saturday morning that Quinn Mantei & Logen Hammett have been named Alternate Captains for the remainder of the season. This fills the vacancy left from Jake Chiasson & Mason Ward being dealt at the Trade Deadline. When the Wheat Kings wear Home White's the Captain will be Nolan Ritchie, with alternates Brett Hyland, Nate Danielson & Logen Hammett. When the Wheat Kings wear their road black jerseys the Captain will be Nate Danielson, with alternates Nolan Ritchie, Calder Anderson & Quinn Mantei.
Central Scouting: Nate Danielson & Carson Bjarnason made the NHL's Central Scouting List in the Mid Term Rankings but there's a new Wheat King emerging in the 2nd half and that's blue liner Quinn Mantei. The Weyburn, SK native has improved over the past two months and is ranked #153 among North American skaters. Danielson is ranked #13 in that same category and Carson Bjarnason is ranked #1 among North American goalies.
Who's Hot: Brett Hyland currently has 14 goals scored in his last 14 games. Forward Nate Danielson has been stellar as of late scoring 39 points in his last 23 games and is on a 10 game point streak. Nolan Ritchie has 29 points in his last 20 games. Calder Anderson has 17 points in his last 14 games.
