CALGARY A.B. - The Brandon Wheat Kings defeat the Calgary Hitmen by a score of 4-2 Friday night.
The Wheat Kings and Hitmen started the game each trading scoring chances but both Brayden Peters and Carson Bjarnason stood tall each stopping all 9 shots they faced in the opening 20 minutes of the game.
The second period was different. At the midway mark of the period, Luke Shipley took a pass from goaltender Carson Bjarnason and went coast to coast scoring his 8th of the season to make it 1-0 Wheat Kings. A minute later the Wheat Kings would go on the powerplay where Calder Anderson placed a point shot from the high slot beating Brayden Peters to make it 2-0 Wheat Kings after 40 minutes of play. The Wheat Kings were very close to making it 3-0 with a flurry of chances but Brayden Peters came across to make a trio of stops in the final minutes of the period.
The Hitmen stormed back inthe third period with London Hoillett scoring a pair of goals to tie it up at two. The Wheat Kings would go on a powerplay with under 5 minutes remaining in regulation and just as the penalty expired Rylen Roersma would find Quinn Mantei in the slot allowing Mantei to score his 2nd of the year restoring the lead for the Wheat Kings. Nolan Flamand would add the empty net goal to make it a 4-2 final.
