The Story Coming In

The Medicine Hat Tigers defeated the Red Deer Rebels 9-1 on Saturday night at the Canalta Centre. Defenceman Daniel Baker and rookies Caleb Willms and Cole Sillinger each had two goals and an assist while goaltender Mads Søgaard stopped 19 of 20 shots faced. The Tigers are 7-2-1-0 to start the season and after tonight's game, they depart on a nine game road trip.

Tigers vs. Blades

Tonight marks the first of four meetings between these two hockey clubs this season. The last time the Tigers defeated the Blades was Jan 10, 2018 and the scored was 3-2. Bryan Lockner scored his first goal as a Tiger in the contest after being acquired at trade deadline. Medicine Hat is 7-4-0-1 against Saskatoon over the past five years.

The Saskatoon Blades defeated the Calgary Hitmen 9-3 yesterday afternoon to start their four game road trip. Veteran forward Eric Florchuk scored a natural hat trick and earned first star of the game. After tonight's battle in Medicine Hat, the Blades will travel to Winnipeg to play the ICE before returning home. Saskatoon is 7-3-0-1 to start the season and they are led by veterans Riley McKay and Scott Walford with 10 points (4G, 6A) each.

Tigers Talent

Trevor Longo is a two-way, poised, physical defenceman in his third season with the Orange and Black. The 19-year-old North Vancouver native has good offensive instinct and he isn't afraid to mix it up or block shots. Longo has formed a strong defensive partnership with Parker Gavlas. Look for Longo to make an impact on both ends of the ice tonight.

Captain's Corner

Captain James Hamblin is leading the Tigers in points with 14 (5G, 9A) and he is in a four-way tie for first for most points in the league. In the past three games, the 20-year-old Edmonton product recorded seven points (2G-5A) and a plus-seven rating. Hamblin is a speedy, skilled two-way forward who leads his team by example with his hard work ethic and tenacity.

Cole Sillinger is tied in second for most goals in the league with 7. He is also tied in first for rookie scoring with 11 points (7G, 4A).

Rookie goaltender Garin Bjorklund has been rated a 'C' prospect by NHL Central Scouting. He has a 3-0-0-0 record to start the season, he is ranked 5th in GAA with 1.67 and 5th in save percentage with 0.943

Ryan Chyzowski scored his first career WHL goal against the Saskatoon Blades Sept 30, 2016, in a 5-1 Tigers victory.

Cole Clayton scored his first career WHL goal against the Saskatoon Blades Sep 29, 2017. In a 6-2 Tigers victory.

In 49 seasons of playing major junior hockey, the Tigers have won 2 Scotty Munro Memorial Trophies, as well as, 212 playoff games which led to winning 43 playoff series, raising 33 banners, winning five Ed Chynoweth Cups and two Memorial Cups.
