May 30, 2015 - Texas League (TL1)
Frisco RoughRiders News Release
FRISCO, TEXAS (May 30, 2015) - Joey Gallo jump-started the offense and Frisco used his three-run blast in the third inning to beat the Drillers 6-2 on Saturday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Andrew Faulkner tossed six impressive innings while Ross Detwiler added two scoreless frames in a major league rehab appearance.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third, when the RoughRiders (20-29) put two on with two out via an error and a walk. Gallo then crushed a 3-2 pitch from P.J. Walters nearly out of the stadium beyond right field to make it 3-0 Frisco. The homer was Gallo's ninth of the season and he has 31 RBI in 32 games in the Texas League.
Frisco's offense continued to produce in the bottom of the fourth. Edwin Garcia reached on an infield single and Sherman Lacrus tripled down the left field line to score Garcia and give the Riders a 4-0 lead. The knock was Lacrus' first of the season and his first at the Double-A level. Nick Williams then drew a two out walk and Nomar Mazara singled to score Lacrus from third. Trever Adams followed with an RBI single to plate another tally to make it 6-0.
The Drillers (20-26) found answers in the top of the fifth, which they started by loading the bases with nobody out against Faulkner (3-3). The Frisco lefty limited Tulsa to just two runs on RBI groundouts by Shawn Zarraga and Jeremy Rathjen but avoided major damage. He bounced back with a perfect sixth inning to finish his outing.
Detwiler, on the Major League disabled list with left shoulder inflammation, entered the game in the seventh inning and allowed a leadoff single, but settled down and retired the next six batters over two innings. He struck out three and did not yield a run.
Will Lamb closed out the game with a perfect ninth inning to preserve the Riders' 6-2 victory.
Faulkner earned his first win since April 27, allowing two runs on three hits with five strikeouts in six innings. Walters (0-1) suffered the defeat, allowing all six runs in five innings.
Jorge Alfaro extended his hitting streak to nine games with a fifth inning double to match his longest streak of the season.
The series and the home stand conclude on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. as RHP Jake Thompson (4-3) faces RHP Randy Fontanez (0-0) of the Drillers. It will be another Kids Sunday Funday as all kids are invited to participate in a pre-game catch on the field and $1 Ice Cream Sandwiches will be available all game long.
