Tulsa Drillers News Release
The Frisco RoughRiders scored three runs in back-to-back innings Saturday night and defeated the Tulsa Drillers 6-2 at Dr Pepper Ballpark. The loss for the Drillers came in the second game of a three-game series against the Riders.
Frisco leftfielder Joey Gallo individually accounted for the first big inning. His three-run home run, his ninth of the season, in the third inning gave the RoughRiders a 3-0.
One inning later, Frisco doubled its lead. With two outs in the fourth, Sherman Lacrus tripled home Drew Robinson to make it 4-0. After Nick Williams walked, Nomar Mazara and Trever Adams delivered consecutive run-scoring singles to up the margin to 6-0.
Tulsa's only offense of the night came in the fifth inning. The first three batters of the inning reached safely to load the bases with no outs. Shawn Zarraga and Jeremy Rathjen each plated a runner with ground outs to cut the margin to 6-2.
It would be the final offense of the night as the Drillers would have only one more baserunner over the final four innings.
Newcomer P.J. Walters suffered the loss in his first appearance for the Drillers. Walters started and allowed the six runs, only three earned, on nine hits in five innings of work.
The two teams will play the rubber game of their three-game set Sunday afternoon. Starting time is scheduled for 4:05PM in Frisco.
Randy Fontanez (0-0, 9.00 ERA) will start the finale for the Drillers, while the Riders will send Jake Thompson (4-3, 4.63 ERA) to the mound.
