Wichita Thunder News Release
MOLINE, IL- The Wichita Thunder beat the Quad City Mallards 3-2 at the iWireless Center on Monday night.
Lance Galbraith snapped a 2-2 tie with 67 seconds left in regulation to lift Wichita to victory. Galbraith took a pass from Jesse Bennefield towards the left corner and wristed a shot to the long side of the net past the left pad of Mallards' goaltender Adam Russo. The Thunder looked to have taken the lead with just over seven minutes remaining in the third when Bennefield slipped a puck past Russo from close range, but the goal was overturned and the game remained tied. Tyler Kindle had knotted the game at 2-2 for Quad City 2:11 into the third period.
Wichita took a 1-0 lead at 17:52 in the first when Andrew Martens shot from the point made it through to the net. Prior to the goal, Marty Magers made a key save with his left pad that short circuited a Mallards' three-on-one rush.
Darren McMillan tied the game at 10:17 in the second, connecting from the high slot. But Jesse Bennefield helped the Thunder re-gain the lead at 12:43, pounding in a perfect backdoor pass from Daniel Tetrault.
