CARSON, CA (Monday, May 3, 2004) - Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder Arturo Torres will attend a Cinco de Mayo celebration hosted by the President of the United States George W. Bush at The White House in Washington, D.C. this Wednesday, May 5, 2004. "We are very honored to have Arturo represent the Los Angeles Galaxy and Major League Soccer at President Bush's Cinco de Mayo celebration," said Galaxy President and General Manager Doug Hamilton. "The Southern California soccer and Mexican-American communities will be well represented by Arturo's presence at this prestigious event."

Torres, whose parents are both from Morelia in the Michoacan region of Mexico, will be joined by one other MLS Player to celebrate Mexico's independence day.

The Wilmington, California native is in his second season with Los Angeles Galaxy after a successful collegiate career at nearby Loyola Marymount University (LMU). This Saturday, May 8, while his teammates travel to Dallas to take on the Burn in a battle for first place in MLS' Western Conference, Torres will graduate from LMU with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish. He will be the first person in his family to earn a college degree.

After signing with his hometown team as a developmental player in 2003, Torres earned a full roster spot on Sigi Schmid's side for the present campaign. In addition, Torres' success with the Galaxy earned the 23 year-old his first call-up to a U.S national team training camp in December, 2003 at The Home Depot Center as the USA began preparations for an international friendly against Denmark.
