Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

Fishkill, NY --- With one out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th tonight at Dutchess Stadium, Hudson Valley Renegades CF Mitch Jones laid down a perfect squeeze bunt as DH Nate Dion scored without a throw to give the 'Gades a 1-0 victory over the visiting Lowell Spinners. Charles Rohr (2-0, 2.12) allowed just one hit in three scoreless innings of relief to earn the win. He struck out two. David Sanders (0-1, 1.69) took the loss for the Spinners.

Dion, playing in his first game since being injured July 17, led the final inning off with a single. With one out, he made it to third on LF Adam Nikolic's bunt single. 2B Fernando Puebla was intentionally walked to set the stage for Jones' walkoff bunt. Jones finished the night 3 for 5 with an RBI while 3B Kris Dufner went 3 for 4. DH Jeremy West and 1B Brett Bonvechio were the only Lowell players to record extra-base hits, both doubles.

The Renegades had two other chances to score the deciding run, but had the go-ahead score thrown out at the plate to end the seventh and the ninth innings. In the seventh, 1B Gabby Martinez was called out in a collision with C Jon de Vries. Martinez was attempting to score on a double off the right-center field wall by SS Aneudi Cuevas. In the ninth inning, Bonvechio gunned down Dufner trying to score on PH Josh Kendrick's fielder's choice.

Tonight's starters, Joe Little for the 'Gades and Arthur Santos for the Spinners, threw dueling shutouts on NASCAR Night, sponsored by Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union and WRWD. Little allowed five hits and one walk while striking out three in seven innings. Little has not allowed a run in 25 innings this season. Santos scattered five hits and no walks with 2 K's in six innings. He lowered his earned run average to 1.43 tonight.

The Renegades and Spinners continue their three-game series tomorrow at Dutchess Stadium on Baseball Card Night, sponsored by Vac Services and WRRV. Tony Peguero (4-4, 2.36) takes the mound for Hudson Valley against Abe Alvarez (0-0, 0.00) of Lowell. First pitch is scheduled for 7:11 p.m.
