
Cardinals Defeat Scrappers

New Jersey Cardinals News Release
This evening at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey, the New Jersey Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals) defeated the Mahoning Valley Scrappers 2-1. The Cardinals improved to 21-33 on the season as the Scrappers fell to 26-29 on the season. Jordan Pals (1-1) picked up the win for the Cardinals as Chris White (1-1) took the loss for Mahoning Valley. Pals pitched seven innings allowing one run and four hits. Pals walked one and struck out four. Roberto Batista earned his tenth save of the season for the Cardinals.
The Cardinals tied the game 1-1 in the bottom of the sixth (Rally Cow Inning) as Daylon Monette singled in Kevin Estrada. In the seventh inning, the Cardinals scored the winning run as Joe Mather led the seventh off with a walk. Matt Pagnozzi then laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance Mather to second. With two outs, Kevin Estrada singled in Mather for a 2-1 Cardinals advantage. Roberto Batista pitched a perfect ninth inning for the Cardinals to pick up his tenth save of the season.
Kevin Estrada and Brendan Ryan each had two hits for the Cardinals. Estrada extended his hitting streak to eleven games as Ryans hitting streak is now at nine games.
The Cardinals continue their homestand tomorrow against the Mahoning Valley Scrappers at 7:15 p.m.
