Batavia Muckdogs News Release
Aberdeen, MD - As the last game of a five game road trip was upon the Muckdogs, they looked to break the recent skid. The game started on a bright note as the 'Dogs took another first inning lead, but like the night before, the would be unable to hold the lead, as Aberdeen went on to a 4-2 win.
A Bryan Hansen sacrifice fly in the first, which scored Javon Moran, gave the Muckdogs a 1-0 lead.
Aberdeen would plate all four of their runs from the 3rd to the 5th inning. A 2-run home run by Tom Joyce would give Aberdeen a lead that they would not relinquish.
Just before Joyce's home run, tnesion between the two teams became apparent. Whit Pierce, who was trying to score on a ground ball to second, steamrolled Jose Cortez at the plate. Pierce was out as Cortez held on, but the Muckdogs bench took exception to what they thought was an attempt to injure. Both benches emptied, but no punches were thrown.
Julio De La Cruz (1-6) was on the losing end again. He lasted 5 innings and surrendered 7 hits and 4 runs. For the offense, Jose Cortez hit his first career home run. Cory Von Tungeln also had 2 hits for the 'Dogs.
The Muckdogs are back in action at Dwyer Stadium tonight, for a 7:05 game versus the Tri-City ValleyCats. They will attempt to break a 6 game losing streak overall and 8 in a row at home.
