Cyclones Fall in Opener

August 12, 2003 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Brooklyn Cyclones News Release

The first place Cyclones dropped the opener of their three game series against the Jamestown Jammers on Tuesday night, by the score of 8-3. Starter Adam Walker took the loss, falling to 0-2 on the season, while the team dropped to 35-19 overall, still a game and a half up over Williamsport in the division.

In one of the few times all season, the Cyclones pitching was not razor sharp, as six hurlers combined to give up eight runs on 11 hits.

While the pitching dipped below the high standards it had set for itself all season, the Cyclones hitters managed nine more hits on Tuesday. A runner reached base every inning, with the team collecting at least one hit in every inning except for the first. Jon Slack got on base three times, had an RBI and scored a run. Ian Bladergroen continued his hot streak, picking up two more hits and an RBI. Aaron Baldiris reached base twice and scored a run, while Blake Whealy collected two more hits and scored a run himself.

The Cyclones aim to bounce back and take the middle game of the series Wednesday night at 7:00 pm, as Vince Cordova (1-2) looks to make his second consecutive strong start.
