G-Braves Routed by Indianapolis, 10-2

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA. - Jose Morales went 4-for-5 with three RBIs and both Anderson Hernandez and Yamaico Navarro drove in two RBIs as the Indianapolis Indians routed the Gwinnett Braves, 10-2, on Wednesday night at Coolray Field. G-Braves' starter Eric Junge suffered the loss with five runs, four earned over 4.0 innings.

The G-Braves (37-37), losers of 17 of their last 22 games, drop to the .500 mark for the first time since the club was 3-3 on April 10. Gwinnett remains 5.0 games behind Charlotte for first place in the International League South Division. The Knights (42-32) lost their second straight game to Columbus, 5-3, on Wednesday night in 10 innings.

Indianapolis scored three runs off Junge in the second inning to establish a quick lead. Brandon Boggs led off with a double and advanced to third on Morales's single. Brian Friday's RBI single scored Boggs for the game's first run, and after a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt by pitcher Daniel Cabrera moved Morales and Friday into scoring position, Gorkys Hernandez lifted a sacrifice fly to score Morales. A two-out throwing error by Junge allowed Anderson Hernandez to reach and Friday to score, raising the lead to 3-0.

Junge (L, 4-7) yielded two more runs on Navarro's two-run triple scoring Gorkys Hernandez and Starling Marte in the fourth inning. The Gwinnett right-hander finished with five runs, four earned on nine hits over 4.0 innings. He walked two and struck out three.

Cabrera (W, 3-3) was solid for the Indians, working 5.2 innings of five-hit baseball as he cruised to his third win. The former Major League right-hander surrendered a run, walked none and struck out two. Indianapolis relievers Daniel Moskos, Chris Leroux, Jose Diaz and Daniel McCutchen combined to allow just one run on five hits through the final 3.1 innings of the night.

Gwinnett scored their first run of the game in the fourth inning, which started with a Christian Marrero double. Felix Pie followed with a single to put runners on the corners with nobody out. However, the G-Braves were able to scratch just one across as Lance Zawadzki's RBI groundout to second base scored Marrero. Tyler Pastornicky drove home the second Gwinnett run in the seventh inning, singling home pinch-hitter Shawn McGill to cut the deficit to 6-2.

Adam Russell yielded an unearned run over 3.0 innings in relief for Gwinnett, and Billy Bullock added a scoreless frame in his second relief outing since being promoted from Double-A Mississippi. However, D.J. Carrasco was touched up for four runs, two coming home on a double by Morales and two more scoring on a single by Anderson Hernandez. Carrasco worked just two thirds of an inning in his first outing with Gwinnett since being signed by Atlanta as a free agent earlier in the day.

Gwinnett infielder Josh Wilson relieved Carrasco in the ninth, making his first professional pitching appearance since June 8, 2009 when he appeared in 1.0 inning for the San Diego Padres. Wilson retired the lone batter he faced as Marte flew out to center. Wilson, in his fourth career appearance on the mound, became the first position player in franchise history to pitch since catcher Corky Miller did so on June 8, 2007 for Richmond in a game against Pawtucket.

Pastornicky (2-for-5, RBI), Zawadzki (2-for-4, RBI) and Jose Constanza (2-for-5) all finished with multi-hit games for the G-Braves.

In addition to Morales's four-hit night, Anderson Hernandez finished 3-for-6 with two RBIs and Navarro added a 2-for-5, two-RBI game as well for the Indians. Four different Indianapolis hitters finished with multi-hit games, while every member of the lineup except for the pitcher's spot came up with at least one hit.

The Gwinnett Braves conclude their nine-game homestand with the series finale against the Indianapolis Indians (43-29) on Thursday afternoon at Coolray Field, first pitch scheduled for 12:05 PM. The G-Braves are expected to start right-hander Todd Redmond (6-4, 3.20), while the Indians counter with left-hander Rudy Owens (5-2, 2.34). The game will be broadcast on 1240 ESPN Radio in Gainesville, GA with Tony Schiavone calling the play-by-play. The television broadcast will air on CSS.

Thursday is Fun in the Sun Day Game with a special noon first pitch. Local day cares are welcome to join the Gwinnett Braves in all the fun and festivities.
