June 20, 2012 - International League (IL1)
Toledo Mud Hens News Release

(TOLEDO, OH) The Toledo Mud Hens and Kroger are joining forces to host "Food Drive Fridays" at three Mud Hens home games throughout the season. The first Food Drive will take place on Friday, June 22nd at the 7 p.m. game vs. Lehigh Valley. Fans attending the Mud Hens home game are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to the ballpark. A donation station will be set up on the main concourse behind home plate and anyone that donates three or more items will receive a Kroger/Mud Hens reusable shopping bag. All food items collected will be distributed to the Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank.

"The need for nutritious food is a continuing struggle," said James M. Caldwell, President & CEO of the Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank. "One in five children goes to bed hungry. The need is especially critical when children are out of school and they are not able to rely on the free and reduced lunch program. We are working to eliminate hunger in eight counties in Northwest Ohio and we rely on the generosity of individuals and groups to achieve this goal."

Suggested non-perishable food donations include: peanut butter, cereal, saltine crackers, 100% juices, apple sauce, fruit cocktail, macaroni and cheese, Ramen Noodles and other dry pasta, dried beans, spaghetti sauce, tomato sauce, ravioli, canned beef or chicken, spam, tuna fish, stews and soups, pork and beans, and other canned vegetables.

Additional dates for the Kroger Food Drive Fridays are Friday, July 20th and Friday, August 10th.

The Mud Hens are home Monday, June 18th through Monday, June 25th. Fans can purchase their tickets at the Fifth Third Field box office, by phone (419) 725-HENS (4367), or online at www.mudhens.com.
