G-Braves Roll Past Lehigh Valley, 9-1

ALLENTOWN, PA - The Gwinnett Braves (15-15) rode the pitching of Matt Wisler and a 13-hit attack to a 9-1 win over the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (9-22) Sunday afternoon in the finale of the three-game series at Coca-Cola Park.

With the win, the club's seventh in the last nine games, the G-Braves reach the .500 mark for the first time since April 14.

Wisler (W, 2-3) logged his second stellar performance of the road trip by handcuffing the IronPigs in a season-high 8.0 innings of work. He gave up five hits and one run while walking none and striking out two. Wisler was followed by Ian Thomas, who worked a scoreless bottom of the ninth with two hits and one strikeout.

Gwinnett's first run came in the top of the second inning off of Lehigh Valley starter Severino Gonzalez. Adonis Garcia led off with a double to left, extending his hitting streak to 10 games. A single to right by Cedric Hunter moved Garcia to third, and Garcia scored the game's first run when Daniel Castro hit into a 5-4-3 double play.

The G-Braves took the 1-0 lead into the top of the eighth where they would erupt for five runs. Wisler led off with a single to right and moved to third on a single to right-center by Eury Perez. Perez moved to second on the throw back to the infield. Jose Peraza followed with a single to left, scoring both Wisler and Perez for a 3-0 lead. Todd Cunningham walked, and Garcia bashed his second double of the game, scoring Peraza and moving Cunningham to third. Castro then singled to center, plating both Cunningham and Garcia for a 6-0 lead.

The only Lehigh Valley run of the game came in the bottom of the eighth when John Hester doubled off the wall in right-center and scored from second when Perez loss a fly ball in the sun hit into right field by Tyler Henson.

Gwinnett came right back with three in the top of the ninth, this time against reliever Nick Hill. With one out, Perez walked and scored from first on a double to left by Peraza for a 7-1 lead. Cunningham singled to left, sending Peraza to third, and Garcia pushed him home with a single to center for an 8-1 lead. Castro then singled to center, plating Cunningham from second with the game's final run.

Gonzalez (L, 1-2) went 5.1 innings with eight hits, six earned runs, one walk and three strikeouts. Tyler Knigge worked 1.2 innings with one strikeout. Hill pitched 1.2 innings with four hits, three earned runs, three walks and four strikeouts. Hector Neris closed out the game for Lehigh Valley by going 0.1 of an inning with one hit.

At the plate, Garcia was 3-for-5 with two doubles, two runs and two RBIs. In addition to extending his hitting streak, he also raised his batting average to .375. Hunter was also 3-for-5, Peraza was 2-for-5 with two runs and three RBIs, and Castro was 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs. Cunningham and Perez each scored twice.

For the IronPigs, Hester went 2-for-3 with two doubles.

The G-Braves return home to Coolray Field Monday night to begin a seven-game homestand and a four-game series with the Syracuse Chiefs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals. Right-hander Chen-Ming Wang (0-3, 5.64) will be on the mound for Gwinnett. The Chiefs will start right-hander Scott McGregor (2-2, 4.21).
