G-Braves Return Home with Win over Norfolk

The Lead: The Gwinnett Braves defeated the Norfolk Tides 7-2 on Tuesday night at Coolray Field. It was the G-Braves' second win in a row and fourth in their last six games. Three G-Braves batters accounted for 2 RBI each. Gwinnett (9-11) sits alone in second place in the International League South while Norfolk (8-12) falls into a third place tie with the Charlotte Knights.

It Was Over When: In the bottom of the 5th inning with the G-Braves ahead 4-2, Braves catcher J.C. Boscan hit a soft fly ball to shallow center that scored 2 runs for the home team. The Tides would not score for the rest of the game.

Braves Beat:

On the Mound: Starter Tim Gustafson earned his first win at the Triple-A level. He went 5.0 innings and only gave up 2 R/ER on 4 hits. Jeff Lyman struck out 2 batters in 2.0 IP. Vladimir Nunez and Cory Gearrin each pitched an inning of work and both struck out 2 Tides batters.

At the plate: Center fielder Gregor Blanco went 2-for-4 with a run scored. He has safely reached base in all 16 games he has appeared, the longest for any G-Brave this season. Left fielder Matt Young had 2 RBI, both on sacrifice flies, and a run scored. Right fielder Brent Clevlen went 1-for-3 with 2 RBI and a run scored. Boscan went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI.

The Opposition:

On the Mound: Starter Brandon Erbe (0-4) allowed 4 R/ER on 6 hits and walked 5 batters in his 3.2 innings of work. Chris George allowed 3R/ER on 1 hit in 1.1 IP.

At the plate: First baseman Brandon Snyder went 1-for-4 with an RBI. Kennesaw-native Corey Patterson went 0-for-4 in his first game with the Tides.

On Deck: Gwinnett hosts the Norfolk Tides in game two of a four-game series tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. at Coolray Field. G-Braves RHP James Parr (1-1, 3.48 ERA) is scheduled to face RHP Chris Tillman (1-3, 6.11 ERA) of the Tides.
