
G-Braves drop series finale to Norfolk

The Lead: The Norfolk Tides beat the Gwinnett Braves 4-3 Friday in the final game of the four-game series at Harbor Park in Norfolk, Virginia. With the win, the Tides win three of the four games and move ahead of the Braves in the International League South. The Tides are now 28-35 on the season, while the Braves are 27-34.
It Was Over When: The Tides scored three runs in the bottom of the 2nd off Gwinnett starter Jo-Jo Reyes. The Braves had a 1-0 lead at the time, but a two-run homer from Brandon Snyder gave the Tides a lead they would never lose. One out later, catcher Michel Hernandez hits a solo homer to right to give the Tides a 3-1 lead.
Braves Beat:
On the Mound: Reyes (0-4) suffered the loss. His line: 5.0 IP, 6H, 4R, 2ER, 0BB, 2K. Vladimir Nunez worked the sixth and seventh: 2.0 IP, 2H, 3BB. Michael Dunn the ninth: 1.0 IP, 2K.
At the plate: Freddie Freeman, Barbaro Canizares and Mitch Jones each went 1-for-4. Joe Thurston was 1-for-3 with a solo homer, his 6th homerun of the season.
The opposition:
On the Mound: LHP Chris George earned the win. His line: 6.0 IP, 6H, 2R/ER, 3BB, 1K. Kam Mickolio worked the seventh: 1.0 IP, 1H, 1K. Ross Wolf worked the eighth inning: 1.0 IP, 0H, 0R/ER, 0BB, 0K. Dennis Sarfate picked up his seventh save of the season and third of the series by working the ninth. His line: 1.0 IP, 1H, 1R/ER, 0BB, 2K.
At the plate: Jeff Salazar went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Snyder was 2-for-3 with his 5th homerun of the season and 2 RBIs. Hernandez was 1-for-2 with his 1st homer of the season and one RBI.
On Deck: The Braves open a four-game home and home series against the Durham Bulls tomorrow night at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. The first two games in Durham to be followed by games on Monday and Tuesday at Coolray Field. First pitch tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. RHP Todd Redmond (6-5, 4.15 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Braves. Durham will start LHP Carlos Hernandez (4-3, 3.21 ERA).
