Norfolk Tides News Release
Home runs by Brandon Snyder and Michel Hernandez and a strong outing by Chris George helped Norfolk edge Gwinnett 4-3 in front of 9,634 fans Friday night at Harbor Park.
Trailing 1-0 in the second inning, Snyder launched a two-run blast over the left field wall for his fifth home run of the season. One out later, Hernandez lifted a fly ball just inside the right field foul pole, giving the Tides a 3-1 advantage.
George (2-1) made the early offense stand up, as he allowed two runs on six hits in six innings of work. The 30-year-old southpaw walked three and struck out one, lowering his ERA to 3.63.
Kam Mickolio and Ross Wolf each followed George with a scoreless inning of relief before Tides closer Dennis Sarfate worked around a solo homer by Joe Thurston in the ninth inning to register his seventh save of the season.
Snyder finished with two hits in the contest, while Jeff Salazar added two hits and an RBI.
Gwinnett's offense was led by Luis Bolivar, who had two hits and a run batted in.
Norfolk won three of four games in the series and wrapped up its eight-game homestand at 4-4.
The Tides travel to Columbus Saturday night for the start of an eight-game, nine day road trip. Troy Patton (4-7, 5.13) will take the mound for Norfolk against Clippers right-hander Josh Tomlin (5-2, 2.89).
