Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees News Release

Ivan Nova picked up his fourth victory of the season and Juan Miranda launched his sixth homerun of season in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees' 5-2 victory over the Charlotte Knights Thursday night.

Nova tossed 6 2/3 innings of two-run ball, allowing seven hits while striking out three and walking two.

Nova seems to have put his May woes - 1-2, 6.20 ERA - behind him, winning his first two starts in June while pitching to a 2.13 ERA.

The Yankees held a slim 3-2 lead after seven innings after Matt Cusick hit an RBI groundout in the second and Miranda added RBIs in the third a seventh innings.

Miranda would provide extra insurance in the top of the ninth inning, hitting a two-out, two-run homerun to put Scranton/Wilkes-Barre up 5-2.

Miranda has been providing big runs for the Yankees all season. Of his six homeruns on the year, three have come in the eighth inning or later and four have come in games decided by one run.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre turned to Jonathan Albaladejo for a five-out save in the eighth inning and Albaladejo delivered, striking out four of the five batters he faced en route to his 19th save of the season.

The teams meet in the final game of the series Friday at 7:15 p.m. Zach McAllister will look to continue his pitching hot streak for the Yankeee, while Jeff Marquez will get the start for the Knights.
