
G-Braves, Cordier Beat Yankees 4-2

Gwinnett Stripers News Release
The Lead: The G-Braves defeated the SWB Yankees by a score of 4-2 on Wednesday night at PNC Field in Scranton, PA. RHP Erik Cordier earned his first win after the All-Star break, while recently promoted RHP J.J. Hoover earned his first save as a member of the G-Braves. The Gwinnett Braves (65-53) pick up a game on the Durham Bulls (66-50) in the IL South standings.
It Was Over When: In the top of the 4th inning with LF Wilkin Ramirez batting, RHP D.J. Mitchell threw wild pitch allowing 2B Brandon Hicks to score. The G-Braves would stay on top for the remainder of the game.
Braves Beat:
On the Mound: RHP Erik Cordier (4-8) had his best start since the All-Star break on Wednesday night. Cordier went 6.0 IP allowing 1 R/ER on 2 H with 4 BB and 3 K's on his way to his 4th win of the year. LHP Ben Swaggerty replaced Cordier in the 7th and earned his 2nd hold of the season going 1.1 IP allowing 1 R, 0 ER on 3 H with 2 BB and a K. RHP J.J. Hoover relieved Swaggerty and earned his first save of the season. He tossed 1.2 IP with a BB and 3 K's.
At the plate: The top three batters in the G-Braves order on Wednesday night all had multi-hit games. DH Matt Young went 2-for-4 with a R. SS Tyler Pastornicky extended his on-base streak to 16 games with a 2-for-4 performance. RF Stefan Gartrell went 2-for-2 with a R, RBI and 2 BB. C Wilkin Castillo capped off the offense with a 2-for-3 performance with a R, RBI and his 3rd HR of the season.
The Opposition:
On the Mound: RHP D.J. Mitchell started the game for the Yankees and earned his 9th loss of the season throwing 8.0 IP allowing 4 R/ER on 10 H with 3 BB, 5 K's and 1 HR allowed. RHP Logan Kensing closed out the game for the baby bombers, tossing 1.0 IP with a H and a K.
At the Plate: The Yankees were limited to only five hits on the night, with only one player having a multi-hit game. 1B Jorge Vazquez went 2-for-3, while 2B Luis Nunez went 1-for-4 with a 2B, the only Yankee extra-base hit.
On Deck: The Gwinnett Braves and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees conclude their five game series Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. at PNC Field. RHP Randall Delgado (1-0, 0.00) takes the mound for the G-Braves vs. RHP Lance Pendleton (3-3, 3.13) for the SWB Yankees.
