
Bulls Errors Lead To Loss

DURHAM, NC -The Durham Bulls defense committed three errors that resulted in six unearned runs in a 11-3 loss to the Rochester Red Wings on Wednesday night at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. The loss was the third for the Bulls on the home stand and they are now 4-3 with one game remaining.
Stephen Vogt singled to start the Bulls first inning and moved to second on a wild pitch. Dan Johnson continued to swing a hot bat and drove home Vogt with an RBI-single to give the Bulls a 1-0 lead. Rochester put up six runs in the top of the third inning including two on an RBI-double off the bat of Rene Tosoni to take a 6-1 lead. The Red Wings picked up three more in the seventh inning, two of which came on an RBI-double from Dustin Martin to make it 9-1. Justin Morneau belted the first home run of his rehab assignment to cap the scoring for the Red Wings in the ninth inning.
The Bulls offense got to Jim Hoey in the ninth inning, when Russ Canzler and Nevin Ashley each homered to cut the deficit to 11-3. The home run was the second of the season for Ashley and capped a three-hit night for the Bulls catcher. Ryan Reid (1-1) took the loss lasting just two innings and allowing four runs only one of which was earned, while walking six and striking out two.
Jake Stevens got the spot start for the Red Wings and went four innings allowing eight hits and one run. Cole DeVries (4-2) earned the win for the Red Wings going three innings and allowing just two hits, walking one and striking out four.
Durham will wrap up their four-game series with the Rochester Red Wings on Thursday August 10 at 7:05 p.m. The Bulls will send Matt Torra (1-1) to the mound against the Red Wings Liam Hendricks (2-1).
