Fyhrie Named PCL Pitcher of the Week

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The Pacific Coast League today named Sacramento River Cats right-handed pitcher Mike Fyhrie its "Pitcher of the Week" for the week ending Aug. 18.

Fyhrie, 32, went 2-0 with a 0.69 ERA in two starts from Aug. 12-18. He allowed just 1 R (1 ER) on 7 H in 13.0 IP during the week. Aug. 13 at Salt Lake, Fyhrie held the Stingers scoreless on 3 H in 7.0 IP and earned the victory. Five days later (Aug. 18) against Colorado Springs, Fyhrie allowed just 1 R (1 ER) on 4 H in 6.0 IP en route to the win.

Fyhrie is 6-2 with a 2.31 ERA in 11 starts for the River Cats this season. He went 2-4 with a 5.26 ERA in 12 games (four starts) with the Oakland A's this season. Originally selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 12th round of the June 1991 draft, he is 2-11 with a 4.17 ERA in 80 major league games (11 starts) and 73-57 with a 3.80 ERA in 239 minor league games (175 starts).

This marks the second time this season Fyhrie has been named the PCL's "Pitcher of the Week." He was also named the league's top pitcher for the week of April 4-14. RHP Aaron Harang (April 22-28) is the only other River Cats pitcher recognized this year as the PCL's "Pitcher of the Week." Adam Piatt (Aug. 5-11) and Cody McKay (July 11-14) were each honored as a PCL "Batter of the Week" this season.

The River Cats will begin a four-game series tonight against the Fresno Grizzlies. Monday, they will begin a five-game series, the team's final home series of the season, at Raley Field against the Portland Beavers.
