Portland Beavers News Release

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Beavers announced today that RHP Adam Eaton has joined the team on a major league rehabilitation assignment and will start tonight's game when the team opens its final four-game home series against the Salt Lake Stingers.

Eaton, 24, underwent "Tommy John" ligament replacement surgery on his right elbow a year ago yesterday. He recently completed the first portion of his rehab assignment at Class A Lake Elsinore, compiling a 0-0 record and 2.70 ERA in three starts. With the Storm, he struck out 19 batters in 13.1 innings worked, limiting opposition batters to a .196 batting average.

After coming over to the Padres in a Nov. 10, 1999 trade with Philadelphia, Eaton made his major league debut with San Diego in 2000 and was 8-5 with a 4.32 ERA in 17 starts with the Padres last year.

Eaton was a first-round draft pick of the Phillies (11th overall) in the 1996 draft. He spent three seasons with the Phillies organization, but came to San Diego with RHP Carlton Loewer and RHP Steve Montgomery in exchange for RHP Andy Ashby.

Eaton is scheduled to make two starts for the Beavers during his rehabilitation stay.
