Future Bullfrogs Hit National Headlines in NCAA Tournament
May 31, 2015 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, Wis.- Not all of the Bullfrogs you will see at Joannes Stadium this summer are currently with the team. Most of the remaining players are trying to lead their college teams to TD Ameritrade Park for a spot in the Omaha College World Series.
University of California-Berkeley would not have beat Texas A&M without the heroics of Bullfrogs Brian Celsi and Mitchell Kranson. Celsi, also a 2014 Bullfrog, saved a sure home run over the left-field wall in the top of the 11th inning. The #3 seeded Cal Bears beat the heavily favored Aggies after Mitchell "El Gaucho" Kranson slugged a high-arching home run past the right-field wall to give the Golden Bears a 2-1 win.
Kranson has posted a College Station Regional of gargantuan proportions. In two games, Kranson is 6-for-11 with two runs and three RBI. He's also playing behind the dish, a defensive asset that will be of great use for Green Bay throughout the summer.
Kranson's Cal teammate, Brian Celsi, did not just make great plays in left field. He also notched two hits in the Saturday night win and added an RBI in the first NCAA Regional win against Coastal Carolina. Celsi has fought back from an injury that kept him sidelined during the last regular season series against Oregon State.
In Louisville, the speedy Cardinal, Logan Taylor, has steamrolled opposing pitchers during the end of the season. For most of 2015, Taylor was around a .200 average in limited at-bats. He's now hitting .296 and has kept the flame lit against Morehead State. Starting in center field, Taylor went 2-3 with a team best two RBI and also scored a run as Louisville won 7-2. Said by many to be the best outfielder in the ACC, Taylor is just a true sophomore.
On the mound, soon to be Bullfrogs also have shined in NCAA post-season play. LHP, Alex Katz carved two scoreless innings against a bolstered Oklahoma State lineup. Katz is second on the team with a 3.38 ERA. And in 50.2IP, he has not allowed a home run and struck out 48 batters.
And brother of Bullfrogs first baseman Ryan Donovan, Connor, received an at-bat and pitched for the Lehigh University Mountain Hawks in games against LSU and Tulane in Baton Rouge.
Group tickets, season tickets and 7-game packages are on sale now. The Bullfrogs off-season hours are Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm. For more information please visit www.greenbaybullfrogs.com.
