Tri-City Storm News Release
Waterloo, Ia. - The Tri-City Storm scored two goals in the final 2:50 of the third to tie before the Waterloo Black Hawks' Shane Bowers scored 2:26 into overtime to win it for the Hawks, 4-3, Saturday at Young Arena.
Andrew Peski and Alex Limoges scored 34 seconds apart to tie the game with 2:16 left in the final frame, helping Tri-City move into sole possession of second place in the West Division (35 points).
At four-on-four, Bowers jammed the puck from the left post over Storm netminder Dayton Rasmussen, who made 32 saves.
The Hawks and Storm combined for four goals in the third, including the first two tallies by Waterloo's Liam Pecararo.
The former Maine Black Bears forward scored at 7:16 of the third on a breakaway to give Waterloo a 2-1 edge. Next, Pecararo was awarded a penalty shot after he was tripped up on a breakaway. He scored with 5:15 left on the power play to give Waterloo a two-goal lead.
Pecararo's two-goal third set the stage for the Storm's comeback. First, Andrew Peski took Tory Dello's pass from the left corner and went top shelf for his second of the season with 2:50 left. Jake Wahlin took the secondary helper.
Less than a minute later, Alex Limoges found a bouncing puck and backhanded it short post over Cale Morris from the right dot to even up the game, completing the comeback to send it to overtime. Dan Labosky and Walker Duehr picked up helpers.
Morris made 26 saves to pick up the win.
The Storm's John Marino also scored at 4:58 of the second to give Tri-City the first goal, taking a pass from Joe Cipollone up the left wing and stuffing from the left post past Morris. After video review, the goal was upheld for the Harvard commit's second of the season. The goal was Marino's first tally since the second game of the season, Oct. 2, at Chicago. Duehr received the secondary helper for his second consecutive multi-point game.
Waterloo settled the Storm for the remainder of the middle frame, tying the game on Michael Davies' power-play rip far post past Rasmussen at 11:47 of the second.
Tri-City's next home game is Friday, Jan. 15, at 7:30 p.m. against the Lincoln Stars on "Taste of Nebraska Night", presented by the Nebraska Lottery. Come check out local restaurants, breweries and vendors at the Viaero Center. Fans can sample the best tastes of the Cornhusker State.
