January 9, 2016 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Madison Capitols News Release
Madison, WI - The Madison Capitols (12-15-1-2) will look to win their second straight game to start a seven game homestand on a very special evening inside the Alliant Energy Center against the Youngstown Phantoms (13-10-3-5). Puck drop is set for 7:05 p.m. for Be The Miracle night.
The Capitols will be honoring the life and legacy of Madison hockey icon Bob Suter, whose son Ryan serves as Chairman of the Capitols. The team will wear "Miracle on Ice" inspired specialty jerseys, which will be auctioned off immediately following the game. Portions of the proceeds raised for the jerseys will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Madison, as well as the Bob Suter Memorial Fund.
On the ice, the Capitols will look to build off one of their best performances of the season on Friday, a 4-0 win at the hands of the Sioux City Musketeers. Garrett Metcalf recorded his second career USHL shutout, stopping 31 Musketeer shots.
The Capitols raced to a 3-0 lead in the opening period on a power play goal from Luke McElhenie and even-strength tallies from Sam McCormick and Alec Broetzman. Eetu Selanne added an empty-net goal late in the third period to round out the Capitols' fourth win in the last six games.
Metcalf has been playing some of his best hockey in January, as the Anaheim Ducks' draft pick has stopped 72 of the last 74 pucks fired his way.
The Phantoms come into the Alliant Energy Center desperately trying to put their overtime and shootout demons to bed. The Phantoms have lost eight games that went beyond regulation this season, including five shootout defeats in their last ten contests.
Youngstown is paced offensively by the USHL's leading scorer, rookie Cameron Morrison, who has already tallied 17 goals and 16 assists in his first season. The Phantoms' defense has not been as stellar, giving up a league-worst 102 goals this season.
The Capitols will take Sunday off before returning to the Coliseum for a three-game weekend set next Friday through Sunday, Jan. 15-17. The Capitols will welcome Chicago, Green Bay, and Cedar Rapids respectively.
Friday's tilt against the Steel marks another WJJO $1 Beer Night at the Coliseum. Tickets to all upcoming Capitols home games can be purchased by calling (608) 257-CAPS (2277) or by visiting www.MadCapsHockey.com.
