Des Moines Buccaneers News Release
The Des Moines Buccaneers came away with a victory in their first game against the Sioux Falls Stampede this season and now have the longest current winning streak in the USHL.
The Buccaneers peppered Stampede goalie Stefanos Lekkas with 23 shots on goal but it took nearly 15 minutes for Des Moines to get on the scoreboard. On the MidAmerican Energy Power Play Ty Pelton-Byce fed Kenny Hausinger who backhanded the puck to David Keefer who deposited the puck into the net from in tight to go up 1-0.
In the second period Joey Kubachka scored his first point with the Buccaneers just 1:29 into the second period to put Des Moines up 2-0 but Sioux Falls answered with a 5 on 3 goal and then a shorthanded goal to get the game tied. At 14:52 the Buccaneers took the lead back when Zach Jordan received a pass from Ty Pelton-Byce and buried it on the back door. 31 seconds later Joey Kubachka scored from almost the same spot on a 2 on 1 with Will Harrison and Harrison and their linemate Wyatt Bongiovanni each picked up assists on each of Kubachka's goals. At 17:28 of the period Alec Rauhauser picked up his second goal of the season to give the Buccaneers a 5-2 lead going into the third period.
Ty Pelton-Byce scored the only goal of the third period at 15:13 when he came in from Lekkas' left and buried it in the upper corner over the goalie's blocker side. In the win Jan Ruzicka ended with 29 saves on 31 shots on goal. The Buccaneers now have won their last five games at Buccaneer Arena, which is the longest home winning streak in the USHL, and their overall four game winning streak is the best in the league as well. Des Moines has won seven of the last eight games and will look to try to keep their winning ways going on the road taking on the Bloomington Thunder on Friday, January 15th.
