La Crosse Loggers News Release

LA CROSSE, WI -- For the third straight night the La Crosse Loggers (4-0) were victorious at Copeland Park. Behind another strong outing from Josh Frye (Long Beach State), La Crosse defeated Battle Creek (0-5) by a score of 4-2, in front of 2,549 fans.

Through five innings, Frye had faced just one more than the minimum. The top of the sixth inning was a different story. Battle Creek rattled off three consecutive hits to begin the inning, the last being an RBI base hit by designated hitter Cam Gibson. A throwing error on Gibson's single brought in another run, but that would be all for the Bombers.

Chris Keck (UCLA) continued to swing a hot bat on Sunday. The sophomore singled in the bottom of the second and then scored on a Connor Teykl (Rice) single.

Keck stepped to the plate again in the bottom of the fourth. This time the lefty sent Kyle Slack's first pitch far out of the park for his second home run in as many nights.

Brandon DeFazio (San Diego), who also homered on Saturday night, worked the count full before taking Slack yard in the very next at-bat. DeFazio finished the night 2-4 with the big fly and a double.

Frye ran pitched into a jam in the top of the seventh. With two outs and two runners on, Jason Nell called upon James Guillen (USC) to face Bombers leadoff hitter Cam Gibson. The sophomore hit it well, but center fielder Johnny Bekakis (Long Beach State) ran it down to help preserve Frye's fourth win of the summer.

Freshman Craig Caufield (Memphis) came on in the ninth and recorded his sixth save of the season. The right-hander lowered his ERA to an impressive 1.20.

The Loggers will be back in action tomorrow evening at 6:35pm at Lakeshore. Tune into the Loggers Radio Network where Micah Schroeder and Nick Rytilahti will bring you all of the action.
