
Blue Anchors Fall to Duluth 5-3

Duluth, MN-The Alexandria Blue Anchors fell to the Duluth Huskies 5-3 on Sunday at Wade Stadium in Duluth. The loss drops the Blue Anchors to 1-2 in the 2nd half, and 11-26 overall.
Blue Anchors pitcher Eldon Evans had a tough first start, giving up four Duluth runs in the first inning. Kyle Teaf started the inning with a leadoff single. After walks to Christoph Bono and Keith Curcio, Michael Suiter singled to score Teaf. Then, Christopher Harvey reached on an error to score Bono and Curcio. Justin Hazard drove in Suiter on a sacrifice groundout to score the fourth run, and the Huskies were up 4-0 after one.
The Blue Anchors were able to get on the board in the third. After Kris Goodman singled and advanced to second on an Andrew Sohn single, Albert Baur doubled to score Goodman and make the score 4-1. However, Duluth would add a run in the bottom of the third to make it 5-1.
The Blue Anchors would answer wth a run in the top of the 4th. Kris Goodman singled to score Tyler Curtis, and made the score 5-2. Georgie Salem would score Dalton Leuschke in the 6th to make the score 5-3. However, the Blue Anchors were only able to get two baserunners in the final three innings, and fell by the final of 5-3.
Eldon Evans (0-1) took the loss in his debut, going one inning and giving up four runs. Patrick McGrath (2-1) picked up the win for Duluth, going five innings and giving up two runs. Nate Carter pitched the ninth for his sixth save of the season.
Minnesota Baseball Academy Player of the Game-Kris Goodman (3B)-Goodman went 3-5 on Sunday, driving in one run, and scoring one run himself. Goodman also stole his seventh base of the season.
Notes-Evans is the 12th different pitcher to make a start for the Blue Anchors in 2013...Albert Baur picked up a hit in his fifth straight game since returning from injury... Baur also recorded his 21st RBI of the season, which puts him second on the team behind Andrew Sohn's 24...The Blue Anchors are back at the Shipyard Monday when they battle the Waterloo Bucks at 7:05pm...Corey Fitzgerald (0-4) will get the nod on the hill, and the game can be seen live at www.youtube.com/user/northwoodsleague
