Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, Wis. - The Express ran through the Bullfrogs' bullpen in a matinee on Sunday, coming from behind with six unanswered runs to defeat Green Bay 6-4.
The Bullfrogs struck first and quickly got on the board in the bottom of the first with an RBI Single from Boomer White (TCU). A double from Nick Torres (Cal Poly) drove in White following that, giving the Bullfrogs a 2-0 lead after the first inning. Torres did not earn an RBI, as an Eau Claire error allowed White to score.
Derek Peterson (Gonzaga) started for Green Bay in his first home start since June 5th. Peterson rolled through the Express lineup early, taking a perfect game into the fifth inning and retiring the first 12 Express batters.
Offensively, Tripp Martin (Samford) extended the Bullfrogs lead in the third inning with a two run home run over the center field wall. It was Martin's eighth home run of the season and his first home run since June 22 nd. The home run gave Green Bay a 4-0 lead through three innings.
Luke Watson (UW-Stevens Point) came in to relieve Peterson in the sixth. Watson gave up the first runs of the day to Eau Claire with a RBI double to Mike Porcaro (UW-Milwaukee). Sam Haggerty (New Mexico) drove in the second run of the inning to narrow the Bullfrogs lead to 4-2 after six.
Jordan Wright (Henderson State) began the seventh inning before he was unable to record an out. Ben Graff (San Fransisco) relieved Wright later in the seventh. The Express tacked on three runs, all charged to Wright, to take a 5-4 lead.
Eau Claire lead 5-4 going in to the ninth inning over Green Bay before Daniel Kihle homered to left field for a 6-4 lead.
Tyler Sparger (Minnesota State-Mankato) came in to pitch a clean ninth inning to lock up a series sweep. The win went to Express reliever Anthony Andres (2-0), loss to Jordan Wright (0-2) and save to Tyler Sparger (6). The Bullfrogs are 0-16 when trailing after eight innings and 1-17 when trailing after seven innings on the season.
