
Frostbite fall in Rockford 6-4

ROCKFORD, IL - The Rockford IceHogs scored five unanswered goal to erase an early deficit and defeat the Adirondack Frostbite 6-4 in front of 6,982 fans at the Rockford MetroCentre.
Adirondack took a 2-0 lead into the locker room after 20 minutes of play. Greg Koehler opened the scoring with a shorthanded tally 6:15 into the first period. Ryan Bennett gathered in a loose puck behind the IceHogs' net, and fed Koehler in the left-wing circle. Koehler took a quick wrist shot that beat Michel Robinson over the left shoulder for his 12th goal in just 23 games this season. The assist extended Bennett's scoring streak to nine games.
The Frostbite doubled the lead at 12:21, just two seconds after a power-play opportunity expired. Ryan Prentice played the puck to Dmitri Suur at the blue line, whose long range slap shot beat Robinson for his third goal of the year.
Rockford got on the scoreboard 7:27 into the second period, scoring while on a two-man advantage. Derek Gustafson got a piece of Steve Yetman's shot from the point, but the puck trickled past him and across the line to cut the Frostbite lead to one. The goal ended Gustafson's shutout streak at 137:59.
The IceHogs pulled even at 14:59. Preson Mizzi centered a pass fro Bruce Watson skating down the slot, and he beat Gustafson with a quick wrist shot to the glove side for his 14th goal of the season.
Rockford's big period continued at 19:28, as the IceHogs scored their second power-play goal of the period to take a 3-2 lead through two periods. With a lot of traffic at the top of the crease, Mizzi was able to slide a shot past Gustafson for his 27th goal of the year.
Robin Big Snake increased the IceHogs' advantage to two at the 6:33 mark of the third period, getting behind the Frostbite defense and beating Gustafson with a wrist shot for his 26th of the season.
The IceHogs struck again just 1:22 later as Watson centered a pass in front for Rob Voltera, who one-timed a shot past Gustafson for his fifth of the season.
The Frostbite made it 5-3 at 15:05 as Mark Hurtubise took a pass from Dave Moccia and tucked a shot past Robinson on the near post for his 15th of the season.
Watson restored the IceHogs three-goal lead with his second goal and third point of the night at 17:35., but Pete Ollari answered for the Frostbite with his second of the season at 18:04.
The Frostbite's four-game road trip continues on Friday as they will be in Elmira for a 7:05 p.m. face-off against the Jackals. All of the action can be heard on WCKM 98.5, starting with the pre-game show at 6:45.
