Komets defeat Dogs in shootout 3-2

FORT WAYNE, IN - In front of a crowd of 7,808, the Fort Wayne Komets defeat the Richmond RiverDogs by the score of 3-2 in a shootout. Colin Chaulk got both goals for the Komets. Evgeny Lazarev and Bobby Kukulka got the markers for Richmond. Lazarev got the RiverDogs on the board with a shorthanded goal midway through the 2nd period. Colin Chaulk tied the game with a shorthanded goal, then got the go-ahead goal in the 3rd period. Bobby Kukulka tied the game with about 6 minutes left, forcing the shootout. The shootout went 5 rounds with the Komets getting the advantage 3-2. Getting goals in the shootout, Kukulka and Lazarev. Mike D'Alessandro was in goal for the RiverDogs as he stopped 48 of 50 Fort Wayne shots.

With the shootout loss, the RiverDogs record goes to 30-25-6, 66 points as the RiverDogs end their long seven game road trip, going 3-3-1 in that run. The team's 66 points puts the RiverDogs 9th overall in the UHL standings, three points behind the Quad City Mallards, who has 69 points. However, the RiverDogs have two games in hand on the Mallards. The next RiverDogs home game is Wednesday, March 22nd as the team plays host to the Roanoke Valley Vipers at 7:05 pm.
