Kingston Frontenacs News Release

The series opener didn't go the way Kingston had planned, but a win in game two would earn a split on the road and give Kingston home ice advantage for the remainder of the series. The Frontenacs would have to do it without the services of Cliff Pu who was out of the lineup. Jeremy Helvig was back in goal after a game one result he would like back. The absence of Cliff Pu meant there would be new line combinations for Kingston, something that would hopefully spark some offence for the Frontenacs.

Kingston was looking for a strong start in game two after Hamilton jumped ahead early in game one. Unfortunately, they didn't get it. The Bulldogs came out flying and put up a big number in the opening period. Nicholas Caamano opened the scoring for the second game in a row. There was a stretch that Kingston looked like they were going to push back, but when Brandon Saigeon scored the second Bulldogs goal the floodgates opened. Will Bitten scored on a breakaway while his team was shorthanded. That was quickly followed by a pair of goals from Robert Thomas and Ryan Moore that came 0:11 seconds apart. By the end of the first Kingston had dug a deep hole for themselves and they were trailing 5-0.

The atmosphere in the second period was very subdued for a playoff game. With Hamilton holding a 5-0 lead, the intensity level had dropped. It may have worked to Kingston's advantage. For the majority of the period there was no scoring. Near the end of period Kingston got on the board. Sean Day made a good rush into the zone and passed it to the front of the net where Ryan Cranford tapped it in. Before the period ended Nicholas Caamano would take a penalty giving Kingston a power play heading into the third. There was still a lot of work to do, but Kingston had built some momentum. They trailed 5-1 after two periods.

The hope for a comeback win diminished as time passed to start the period. Kingston didn't score on the power play and momentum faded. Hamilton put an end to any hope of a Kingston miracle when MacKenzie Entwistle made it 6-1 at 6:01 of the third. Riley Stillman added another power play goal later in the period to make it 7-1. That would be the final score as the Bulldogs took a 2-0 series lead.

The Frontenacs had another slow start and the hole was too deep to dig out of for the second game in a row. Although losing the first two games is not ideal, Kingston lost the opening two games in the last round against Barrie. They also lost the first two against Hamilton last season in the opening round.

Games 3 and 4 of the series will take place in Kingston on Sunday night at 6 PM and Tuesday night at 7 PM. Tickets for both games are available now.
