Fronts Suffer 3-1 Loss in Last Meeting of the Season with Bulldogs

The Kingston Frontenacs enjoyed a Saturday off while their Sunday afternoon opponent, the Hamilton Bulldogs, were playing the top team in the OHL in Ottawa. The Bulldogs put in a valiant effort but lost that game 5-3. They made their way to Kingston after the game and avoided the worst part of the snowstorm Kingston saw overnight. It was the final meeting of the season between the division rivals as the Frontenacs looked to even the season series at 3 wins each.

The opening period had a great pace. At one point there was over eight minutes of play without a whistle. Shots in the period ended up 8-5 in favour of the Bulldogs and for the second game in a row the Frontenacs headed to the room scoreless after one period.

The second period saw some action on the goal sheet and in the penalty box. Jake Gravelle opened the scoring with a point shot through traffic that beat Marshall Frappier. Matt Strome extended that lead when he tucked a rebound under Frappier's pad at 10:41 of the period. Just seconds later Zayde Wisdom and Frank Jenkins dropped the gloves for a spirited bout. That led to some rough play over the next few minutes. Ryan Cranford tried to convince Jan Jenik to dance in front of the Hamilton bench, but Jenik wasn't interested and Cranford was sent to the box for roughing. One minute later Eric Henderson, Liam Van Loon and Jakob Brahaney all took roughing penalties after a post whistle scrum. That put Kingston on a short power play, which they cashed in on. Billy Constantinou found Ian Derungs in a great shooting spot and Derungs buried it to cut the lead in half. The action-packed period ended with the Bulldogs holding a 2-1 lead.

The rough stuff calmed down in the third period as Kingston tried to mount a comeback. Zachary Roy made several outstanding saves to keep his team ahead. That bought the Bulldogs some time and once they put some pressure on the Frontenacs, Eric Henderson extended the lead to 3-1. Again, the Frontenacs applied pressure but Roy kept them off the board for the rest of the game. Hamilton ended up winning 3-1.

Marshall Frappier had a very solid game in net for Kingston. He ended the game with 32 saves giving his team a chance to get a win. Other noticeable Frontenacs were Billy Constantinou, Zayde Wisdom and Tyler Burnie.

The home stand ends this coming Friday when the Saginaw Spirit visit Leon's Centre at 7 PM. Tickets are available through ticketmaster.ca.
