Fronts Drop 4-1 Decision to Steelheads

Many things have changed since the last meeting between Kingston and Mississauga, but the rosters are the most noticeable difference. Both teams moved talented players since they last met on November 16. Former Frontenacs Jason Robertson and Brett Neumann were moved to Niagara and Oshawa, while Owen Tippett and Ryan McLeod were both moved to Saginaw in separate deals before the deadline. One thing that is usually consistent between the two team that met on Friday night at Leon's Centre is a low scoring game.

Both teams had scoring chances in the opening minutes of the game. Kingston's came on a power play that took place less than two minutes after puck drop. After killing that penalty, the Steelheads opened the scoring with a lucky goal. Kingston won the defensive zone faceoff, but the bouncing puck handcuffed the defencemen as well as Brendan Bonello. C.J. Clarke pounced on the loose puck and tapped it in to put his team ahead. Although Kingston didn't tie the game before the end of the period, Thomas Harley took a 4-minute high sticking penalty just before the buzzer sounded meaning Kingston carried 3:53 of power play time into the second period.

Technically the Frontenacs didn't score on the power play, but they scored just seconds after it expired. Jakob Brahaney shot the puck through a screen and it found its way into the net to tie the game 1-1. It wasn't long before the Steelheads snatched the lead back after a Lucas Rowe turnover behind his own net. Alan Lyszczarczyk intercepted the clearing attempt and quickly shot the puck by Brendan Bonello. The Steelheads didn't allow many scoring chances for the remainder of the period and took a 2-1 lead to the dressing room.

It was all Steelheads in the final period. They scored twice in the period while outshooting the Frontenacs 18-1. Keean Washkurak made it 3-1 when he put in a rebound after several great Brendan Bonello saves. James Hardie ended any doubt his team may have had about a win with a goal at 15:21 of the third. It made the score 4-1 in favor of the Steelheads, which was the final score of the game.

Kingston will now hop on a bus and head to Barrie to face the Colts tomorrow night. They return home for a Monday afternoon Family Day game at 2 p.m. Tickets are available at ticketmaster.ca. The team will also be collecting non-perishable food items in support of St Georges Cathedral and their "Lunch by George".
