Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, WI - July 26th, 2011 - Bullfrogs' reliever John Colella pitched out of a no-out bases loaded jam in the seventh and Green Bay won game two of the three game series with the Waterloo Bucks Tuesday night at Joannes Stadium. Bullfrogs starter Tim Giel (6-2) pitched six innings for the win and Colella earned his seventh save of the year. The win keeps Green Bay within two and a half games of first place and have now won five or their last six.
The 'Frogs took an early lead in the first after Billy Moon singled to left to score Ty Filliben. Green Bay added two more runs in the fifth after Filliben singled to right to score Steven Halcomb and Moon hit his second RBI of the night with a single to left. This marks the 13th time Moon has had a multi-hit game this season.
'Frogs starter Tim Giel had been pitching a gem until he ran into some trouble in the seventh. After a single, error, and walk, Giel was faced with a bases loaded jam and no outs. Thomas Lindauer dropped a single to center that scored Jeff Popick and kept the bases loaded still with no outs. Coach Bischel called on Colella for relief who struck out Andrew Ewing for out number one. The Bullfrogs almost turned an inning ending double play, but Joel Hutter scored on a fielder's choice that cut the score to 3-2. After a hit by pitch loaded the bases again, Colella got Jeremy Lucas to groundout to first to end the inning.
Green Bay would add two more insurance runs in the eighth when Phillip Ervin hit a two-RBI double to left that scored Billy Moon and pinch-runner Ryan Allgrove. Allgrove subbed in for Jacob May after Bucks pitcher Pat Gannon hit May in the head. Luckily, May was able to get up on his own power, but would not return to the game.
Waterloo had a chance to tie the game in the ninth after a double and walk put runners on first and second with one out, but Colella was able to get Davis Hendrickson to groundout to second, and got Jeremy Lucas to strike out swinging to end the game.
Giel pitched six strong innings yielding two runs on six hits while also striking out a season high six batters. Tim's sixth win on the year is good for second most in the league, and his 2.09 ERA is still top ten in the NWL this season.
Bucks' starter Jake Powers (3-3) pitched well through seven innings giving up three runs on six hits while striking out seven, but the Bucks could not rally from the early inning deficit. The loss drops Waterloo a game behind the La Crosse Loggers for first place.
The 'Frogs look to sweep the three game series from the Bucks on Wednesday July 27th. It's Military Appreciation Night presented by Waste Management. All Frogville citizens will receive a free set of DAV Bullfrogs baseball cards as they enter Frogville.
