Madison Mallards News Release

MADISON, WI - July 26, 2011. The Madison Mallards will play host to the Battle Creek Bombers in a 7:05 p.m. game Tuesday night. The game is the first of two to be played between the South Division rivals at the "Duck Pond."

After the team's final off day of the season Monday, the Mallards will bring a well-rested team to the ballpark eager to face the first half division champions.

Defeating Battle Creek will not be an easy task for the Ducks however, as the Bombers, who also had Monday off, possess the second-best offense in the league. The team is hitting at a .272 clip and is led by Daniel Rockett (Texas - San Antonio), Jordan Dean (Central Michigan), Brett Wiley (Evansville). The trio of sluggers are all hitting over .300 and have combined for 70 RBI this season. Troy White (Northern Illinois) leads the team with six home runs and has also driven in 22 runs.

Hoping to stop the potent Battle Creek offense will be Mallards' pitcher Tom Windle (Minnesota). Windle (1-2) will be making his fourth start and eleventh appearance of the season Tuesday. In 29.2 innings pitched, he has 12 walks and 33 strikeouts, and has compiled an ERA of 4.85. His lone win of the season came against the Bombers in the team's 11-1 victory on June 12. In that game, Windle went a season-high six innings, allowing one run on five hits. He had no walks and struck out eight batters.

The Bombers will have an equally difficult task at hand in shutting down the Mallards. Madison has a few standout hitters as of late, including All-Stars Nate Theunissen (Central Michigan) and Jordan Owen (Tennesee - Martin). Andrew Barna (Davidson), Justin Parr (Illinois), and Andrew Wasmund (Madison College) also have had big hits for the team as of late.

Pitcher Ben Ballantine (Michigan) gets the starting nod for the Bombers. Ballantine was also a 2011 Northwoods League All-Star and started the game for the South. He is 1-1 this season with a 1.88 ERA in six total appearances that include four starts.

The Mallards and Bombers will finish their two-game set Wednesday in another 7:05 p.m. game.

Tuesday is also Snack Appreciation Night at the "Duck Pond."

In the News The Mallards have waived pitcher Parker Schrage (Madison College). Schrage sustained an injury and is unable to pitch the remainder of the summer. Prior to his injury, Schrage, a Mt. Calvary native, was 0-2 with a 4.50 ERA in three starts.
