Green Bay Rockers News Release
Madison, WI - June 28th, 2011 - Zak Hermans shut down the best offense in the league again as the Green Bay Bullfrogs won 7-1 on Wednesday night over the Madison Mallards. It is Green Bay's fifth win in a row. They are now tied for first place with Madison and Eau Claire.
Madison entered Wednesday's game with a league-leading .284 team batting average. Hermans tossed seven innings allowing one run on six hits with seven strikeouts. He gave up an RBI single in the fourth inning and stranded the bases loaded in the seventh. Other than that Hermans was in control in a rebound game after he went just 0.1 of an inning in his last start.
The 'Frogs' offense continued to roll on Tuesday with eight hits and seven runs. Billy Moon had another great game finishing 3-4 with a run and RBI. Over the last two games Moon is 6-10 and has been retired just just once in his last 11 at-bats. Ryan Allgrove also stayed hot. He had a single, three walks and a run scored. Allgrove has now reached in 8 of his last 10 plate appearances.
The Bullfrogs scored single runs in the second, third and fifth innings. The big blow came in the fourth when Green Bay scored four runs thanks to poor defense from the Mallards. Allgrove led the inning off with a walk. Ball four went to the back stop and the catcher did not hustle back to get the ball so Allgrove sprinted around first and into second base. The next hitter was Cameron Dullnig, who laid a bunt down back towards the pitcher. The catcher and pitcher miscommunicated and neither picked the ball up in time to throw out Dullnig. Billy Moon drove Allgrove in with a single and went to second on a bobble by the left fielder. Mitch Haniger hit a sacrifice fly, his 10th RBI in three games. David Popkins had an infield single and moved to second on a passed ball that proved costly after an error by the third baseman allowed him to score five pitches later.
Green Bay is now tied for first place with Eau Claire and Madison headed into the Thursday night's 7:05 pm game with the Mallards. There is just one week left in the first half. Tim Giel will be on the mound for his first start since a seven inning shut out in his last start.
