Honkers Drop Game at Brainerd

(Rochester, MN) - The Rochester Honkers traveled to Brainerd today, June 29 after spending yesterday resting during an off-day, but were out-powered by the Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers, 10-4.
Eric Davila (Fr, Sonoma College) could not quite settle in for his first start of the season after being a late signee, pitching three innings, letting eight runs score on nine hits. Davila was pulled in the third inning for reliever Jordan Jakubov (RsJr, Kansas). Jakubov pitched the remaining five innings for the Honkers, allowing just two runs on six hits.
The Lunkers scored early and often in the first four innings, scoring three in the first, getting shutout in the second, one in the fourth and six runs in the fourth, before being shutdown by Jakubov for the rest of the game.
The Honkers bats benefited from the day off, manufacturing four runs, the most since June 19, when they defeated the Alexandria Beetles 8-2 in a seven inning game. The four runs were on nine hits, most since the same 8-2 win against the Beetles, where they had 10 hits.
It was the bottom of the Honkers lineup that produced well today, with Anthony Hutting (Jr, Cal State Fullerton), Brett Hambright (Jr, Oregon) and Reid Roper (Fr, Illinois) all getting three hits on the game as the 7-8-9 batters in the Honkers lineup. Roper also drove two of the Honkers runs in, while scoring one.
The Honkers and Lunkers are back at it tomorrow, for a 7:05 start. Another newcomer, Jeff McKenzie (So, Delta College) will be on the mound for the Honkers, making his first appearance of the season. McKenzie would be joining signed Honkers Martin Medina and Ryan McIntyre, had they not signed professional contracts, at Cal State Bakersfield.
The Honkers will return home on Saturday, July 2 for a 7:05 game against the Mankato MoonDogs, at Mayo Field.
