Mankato MoonDogs News Release
Mankato, Minn.- The Mankato MoonDogs bounced back from Tuesday night's loss on Wednesday with a final score of 6-2 at Franklin Rogers Park to take the three-game series from Thunder Bay.
The MoonDogs played a little small-ball in the win. They scored six runs without having a single extra base hit, instead, they used a combination of singles, bunts and stolen bases (three in the game) to advance the runners around the diamond and get runs across the plate. Brennan Moore (Texas Tech) led the MoonDog offense going 2-4 from the plate, scoring two runs and two RBI. Blair Moore also contributed with two hits and an RBI.
Matt Mazzoni (Fresno St.) pitched another great game for the 'Dogs getting the win. Mazzoni spread out seven Border Cat hits in seven innings of work, while only allowing one run, walking two and stranding nine Thunder Bay base runners. Mazzoni now carries a 1.78 ERA on the season as he continues to be effective for the 'Dogs from the mound.
Despite striking out seven MoonDogs in six innings and only giving up five hits, Border Cat pitcher Zak Miller (Yavapai College) suffered the loss for the 'Cats and moves to 1-3 on the season.
The MoonDogs now travel north of the border for a two-game series against Thunder Bay again, and then travel to Rochester for a weekend series against the Honkers. They return home on Monday, July 4th and play the St. Cloud River Bats.
