Fresno Grizzlies News Release

Fresno, CA- The Grizzlies four game winning streak was snapped after losing the lead and the game to the Las Vegas 51s 9-6. Sunday's crowd of 8,732 fans witnessed Fresno's rally hopes fall short in the ninth after pinch hitter Dan Ortmeier struck out looking with the bases loaded.

Down 1-0 in the first, Grizzlies first baseman Scott McClain blasted a towering three run home run to left field, his third of the season. The home run scored Nate Schierholtz, who went four-for-five on the day. The Grizzlies added their fourth run in the second on a two out RBI single from second baseman Luis Figueroa.

One inning later, Las Vegas starter Greg Miller found himself in another jam after loading the bases with Grizzlies. Fresno capitalized and took a 6-2 lead when Miller walked Palmer then Clay Timpner, allowing two runs to score.

In the eighth, the 51s tied the game 6-6 after reliever Patrick Misch loaded the bases and proceeded to give up a two-run single to Las Vegas catcher Ken Huckaby. Billy Sadler replaced Misch on the hill only to surrender a pinch hit, three run homerun to Mitch Jones, vaulting the 51s to a 9-6 lead that would be enough for the victory.

Grizzlies starter Matt Palmer received a no decision after allowing three earned runs on six hits, seven strikeouts, and one walk in seven innings.

The Grizzlies return to Chukchansi Park tomorrow at 12:05 in the finale of their four game set with Las Vegas. Fresno will send left hander Travis Blackley (2-1, 3.82 ERA) to the mound to face lefty Hong-Chih Kuo (0-0, 2.08 ERA).
