Tucson Sidewinders News Release

Sacramento, CA - Evan MacLane tossed six shutout innings and Alex Romero drove home a pair of runs to lead the Sidewinders to a 3-1 win over the Sacramento Rivercats on Sunday afternoon at Raley Field. The Sidewinders are now 14-15 on the season.

MacLane was in trouble in the first after walking Kevin Melilo and giving up a single to J.J. Furmaniak, but Rich Thompson threw out Melilo at the plate as he tried to score on Hiram Bocachica's single. Daric Barton then bounced into a 1-6-3 double play to end the inning. The Sidewinders lefty faced adversity again in the second but stranded Kurt Suzuki at third after a leadoff double and worked out of a bases loaded, one out jam in the fourth by striking out Jason Stokes and inducing a grounder to short from Antonio Perez.

MacLane (2-2) allowed six hits in his six innings. He walked four and struck out six. The Sidewinders pitching staff had 13 strikeouts in the game.

Tucson grabbed a 1-0 lead in the third on Romero's two out base hit to right that scored Mark Johnson. They extended the lead to 2-0 in the fifth when Romero drove home Johnson again, this time with a two out double to left-center.

Brad Knox was charged with the loss. Knox (0-1) worked eight innings but allowed the three runs on eight hits.

Danny Richar's triple to right-center in the seventh stretched the Sidewinders lead to 3-0.

Sacramento scored their lone run on a Daric Barton home run leading off in the eighth inning against Randy Choate.

Choate struck out three in his inning and a third of work while Jailen Peguero struck out four in an inning and two thirds to nail down his second save of the season.

Romero went 2-4 with 2 RBI. Johnson was 2-4 with two runs scored and Brian Barden went 3-4.

The Sidewinders and Rivercats will play the final game of their four game series on Monday night at Raley Field. Right-hander Yusmeiro Petit (2-2, 6.00) will start for Tucson against right-hander Jason Windsor (2-2, 6.47) for Sacramento. First pitch is at 7:05. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 6:50.
